Topic: Heirs to the Promise

The Example

verses 3:15-16
Paul gives a simple example to explain the law and the promise of God. Here Paul says that Abraham made a promise with God and that no one can change that.
The Promise was Jesus Christ.

verses 3:17-18
Paul continues his explanation by pointing out that the law came after the promise and thus it can not change the promise.

Our Heritage Preserved

Verses 4:1-3
Paul begins the 4th chapter with an allegory. Here he uses the example of a child who is an heir and how they have to follow the rules of their guardians until they come of age.

Family History Beyond this World

Verses 4:4-7
Paul finishes his allegory by connecting the arrival of Jesus Christ with the child who comes of age. Now the child can fully experience his inheritance. Jesus Christ came lived under the law and redeemed us by dying on the cross for you and I. Because of that we now have the holy ghost in our life and we are counted as one of the children of God. No longer a slave. See how plain that is. If you become a child of God it says right here Through Christ we have become heirs unto God. We have an inheritance.

Genesis 41:37

³⁷And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
v. 37 Pharaoh was pleased with the interpretation of hisdreams. He knew Joseph was speaking the truth.

Genesis 41:38

³⁸And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

v. 38 Pharaoh recognized the power of God, even if he wasnot a believer himself. Pharaoh knew he could not trust his own advisers, butfelt lead to trust Joseph, who was still a prisoner in jail.

Genesis 41:39

³⁹And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:

v. 39 Pharaoh mentions Joseph's discreetness and wisdom. Thetrait Joseph earned through his hardships in slavery and prison.

Genesis 41:40

⁴⁰Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
v. 40 Pharaoh granted Joseph much power in Egypt. Thisparallels many parts of Joseph's past: his favor with his father and favor withPotiphar, but the difference now is that Joseph is both wiser and a moreseasoned believer.

⁴¹And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.

v.41 Pharaoh explains the full extent of Joseph's newposition and power.

Genesis 41:42

⁴²And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;

v. 42 Pharaoh demonstrated his trust by giving Joseph hisroyal ring, royal robes and gold chain. These articles were valuable bythemselves but the true value came from the power and favor it denoted given toJoseph.

⁴³And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.

v.43 When Pharaoh presented himself to the public, Josephwas his "right-hand man" riding in a chariot right behind Pharaoh'sand making sure the public and all royal officials knew to "bow" and"make way" for this new leader.

⁴⁴And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.

v. 44 The power Pharaoh gave Joseph included giving Josephreign over the workers of the land.

Background

Joseph, son of Jacob (not Joseph thehusband of the Virgin Mary), eventually forms one of the 12 tribes Joseph was adreamer, one dream was about sheaves and how his sheave is the tallest, andanother was about the son and the moon and eleven stars bowing to him. Josephbeing his father's favorite son, his brothers being jealous sold Joseph into slavery.We find him here in slavery in Egypt serving an Egyptian master.

Title: A Blessing forall Nations

The book of Genesisis defined as:

gen·e·sis [ jénnəssiss ]

1. beginning: thetime or circumstances of something's coming into being

Today's lesson we see thebeginning, the genesis, of God's promise to Abram, and to the future nation tobe called Israel.

God Chose Abram for a numberof reasons for the blessing to follow. One Key reason is obedience.

Genesis 12:1

¹Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Getthee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house,unto a land that I will shew thee:

Abram had love for his family and kinfolks. Nevertheless when Godtold him to do something. He had faith in God. He knew God wouldprovide for him if he left his country and from his kindred to journey to aforeign land. Many people today ask to hear from God but if that person hearsfrom God, would they be willing to do with God says?

Genesis 12:2

²And I will make of thee a great nation,and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Because of Abram's obedience, all of God's promise came tofruition just as God said.

Finally, after walking some 500 odd miles, Abram arrived at thelocation God promised him. Moreover, he pitched a tent and built and altar.

Genesis 12:8

⁸And he removed from thence unto amountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on thewest, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, andcalled upon the name of the LORD.

It is important to realize that Abram is thanking God. Before Godhas even deliver on all his promise. Abram has exhibited amazingfaith that we should all strive to attain.
